Customer Reviews of Old Dutch International 4¼ Inch Solid Copper Stovetop Salt & Pepper Set
Customer Rating: Summary: Copper Salt & Pepper Shakers Comment: I just wanted simple stovetop shakers to replace the broken glass ones I had. I came upon these while browsing quite by accident. I liked the look of shiny copper so I chose these. The pics here and on other sites do not do it justice. When I saw them up close in real life, they looked high quality. They sure do add a touch of elegance to the kitchen. I've had no trouble so far with the bottom plastic plugs falling out as other reviewers have pointed out. In fact, it's an effort for me removing these plugs for refilling. And the holes for the pepper shaker seem big enough to allow an adequate flow without having to forcibly shake it out. I also like the fact that they have some kind of coating that eliminates any tarnish build-up. No regrets here and I highly recommend them. Customer Rating: Summary: Beautiful! Comment: Always looking for quality copper accessories for my kitchen. These are beautiful as well as functional. Would definitely recommend them. Customer Rating: Summary: Useful Copper Accents Comment: We were pleased with the size and weight of the salt and pepper set as we use it for cooking. If you like to fill your shakers full, these will hold a LOT of product. The finish is exactly as we expected from the pictures, and this item paired well with a copper tools vessel we ordered at the same time. The salt & pepper shakers look good and work well - great combination of form and function. Customer Rating: Summary: Copper Salt & Pepper Shakers Comment: A beautiful addition to any kitchen; these are much prettier than the photo here; they're lacquered to prevent tarnishing and are nicely weighted (not too heavy, not to light). The brass "S" and "P" are neatly riveted onto the shakers & are a nice color accent ("gold" in color). My only complaint: I wish the pepper shaker's holes were just a little larger--it takes some enthusiastic shaking to get an adequate amount of pepper onto food. Will fix that soon by enlarging the holes myself, but wish this had been done at the factory. If it weren't for that flaw, I'd give this 5 stars; worth the $. More Reviews A seasoned cook will enjoy the beauty and warmth of these salt and pepper shakers. Each shaker sparkles with a mirror finish and is crafted from solid copper with a solid brass base and accents. A plaque is riveted on the side with either 'S' or 'P' and the riveted handle is left unpolished for better gripping. They both have nickel-lined interiors and a plastic plug on the underside for filling with salt or pepper. The shakers have a nice weight to them and the hole patterns are identical. Lacquers are used to prevent tarnishing and to maintain the polished look. While copper cookware often comes with a lacquer that needs to be removed before use, the lacquer on the salt and pepper shakers does not require removal. Choosing Appliance -> Strainers We recommend 2 strainers for every kitchen. The first is a solid stainless steel colander (one big enough to wash a lot of lettuce at once). The second strainer is a fine mesh conical strainer (called a chinois) which is a must for any serious sauce or stock making. A chinois is an expensive purchase, but with care it will last many years. Choosing Appliance -> Energy-Efficient Refrigerators The EnergyGuide label on new refrigerators will tell you how much electricity in kilowatt-hours (kWh) a particular model uses in one year. The smaller the number, the less energy the refrigerator uses and the less it will cost you to operate. In addition to the EnergyGuide label, don't forget to look for the Energy Star label. A new refrigerator with an Energy Star label will save you between $35 and $70 a year compared to the models designed 15 years ago. This adds up to between $525 and $1,050 during the average 15-year life of the unit. Old Dutch International 4¼ Inch Solid Copper Stovetop Salt & Pepper Set Useful info -> Is the top or bottom element going to perform the self-cleaning cycle? Some ovens only use the top element and others only use the bottom one. Better designed ovens use the bottom element. The reason for this is that most grease spills and splatters (soil) will accumulate on the sides and the floor of the cavity - not on the ceiling (where the broiler is located) and therefore, the element that is the closest to these soiled areas should be the one to work the strongest in order to bake off the soil. |
