Customer Reviews of Lodge Cast Iron Cooking for Dummies Cookbook
Customer Rating: Summary: A good place to start Comment: I grew up with cast iron cookware in the house. My mother owned several pieces but it has only been in the recent months that I have developed a real appreciation for it. Regretfully, all of hers is gone including some classic Griswold pieces. If you know nothing of cast iron this is a good place to start. It's not comprehensive (Dummies books rarely are). If you are just getting started and want some good basic information, you can't beat this for the price. More Reviews Learn all the secrets of cast iron cooking at home or in the great outdoors. You'll learn to prepare more than 100 tempting recipes from southern classics to gourmet selections, too. This set includes Cast Iron Cooking for Dummies, a 360-page book full of tips, tricks and 141 recipes, a 5-quart seasoned Lodge Logic cast iron Dutch oven for stews and baked beans, a 10.25-in. seasoned Lodge Logic cast iron skillet for fried eggs and bacon, an interchangeable seasoned cast iron lid and a mitt for the handle. Choosing Appliance -> Shopping Washer When shopping for a new washer, look for a front loading (horizontal-axis) machine. This machine may cost more to buy but uses about a third of the energy and less water than a top-loading machine. With a front loader, you'll also save more on clothes drying, because they remove more water from your clothes during the spin cycle. Look for the Energy Star label. Choosing Appliance -> Ladles Look for ladles that are made of one piece of stainless steel rather than a handle and dome which are spot welded together. With use, spot welded ladles tend to come apart. Buy several differnet sizes. Lodge Cast Iron Cooking for Dummies Cookbook Useful info -> Dishwashers Don't put up with intrusive machine noise in the kitchen. Most dishwashers are now whisper quiet, 45-49dB being typical. You should still be able to watch the television or hold a conversation whilst the machine is operating. |
