Customer Reviews of Rowenta DX-8800 1750-Watt Professional Iron
Customer Rating: Summary: Very disappointing product Comment: I purchased this iron 10 months ago. Now, it leaks so badly that water completely drains out of it in a matter of minutes. It was fine one minute, and then I had water all over the place the next minute. It was not a gradual leak. This is the second Rowenta iron that I have owned. The first didn't have any issues with leaking, but the cord burned off at the base of the iron as I was using it. Neither of my irons have lasted long, and I think they cost too much money to die so soon. I don't think that Rowenta irons are good values. They may iron nicely for a few months, but eventually they fall apart. Trying to get a hold of someone to discuss repairs is impossible. They just tell you to ship your iron to one of three locations. I am not about to spend one more dime on a Rowenta product. Customer Rating: Summary: Rowenta supposed top quality ~ it isn't quality at all ~ it's badly made Comment: I have had two Rowenta irons. I bought the Rowenta because I used one in a quilting class & that Rowenta always seemed to work fine. So I bought what I thought was the best because I wanted a good quality product that would last a long time. That's where I made my first mistake. Good quality products stopped when American companies stopped making things in America. Circa World War II products & up to the 1970's were made to last. Not anymore. But back to the Rowenta. The first iron just didn't seem to get hot so I exchanged it for another one. And this second one will shut off if I leave it or set it down even a few seconds. It shuts off, takes forever to heat up; I thought it was just a fluke, just me, I must be doing something wrong. But I have read reviews here on Amazon & on Joann's and these Rowenta's are full of errors. They don't heat up, they shut off too fast, they catch on fire, and review after review said they leak. I use my Rowenta for quilting, so I don't use a lot of steam or water so I haven't had that problem with leaking. But the shutting off in the middle of a project ! ? This iron doesn't work for quilters who need a hot iron for longer periods of time. I have never had a product that performed so badly before, so I was sure I was doing something wrong. But, put me in with all the other reviewers: This is a bad product. Not made well; does not last. I am going back to a basic, old fashion American made iron, one of those older antique irons that heat up and stay on forever. The kind that comes with a really nice big heavy cord, solid steel, & bakelite or heavy duty knobs . This will be the last Rowenta I waste my money on. The fact that they catch on fire, two reviewers said that, scares me. To think I wasted so much money on this .. thing. Don't buy this iron. Even the good reviews don't balance out all the bad ones I have read. Go back and buy American made pre - 1990's stuff, before overseas manufacturers started making junk. Or at least really check out the reviews before you plunk your money down on anything. Customer Rating: Summary: Rowenta DX 8800 Comment: This is by far the best iron on the market. You just can't find an iron this good for double the money. I highly recommend this product. Customer Rating: Summary: Rowenta is made in Germany (NOT CHINA!) Comment: Rowenta is made in Germany (NOT CHINA) and to me, that's a selling point in its own. This is our second Rowenta. The DM-88(?) was our first model that was still working but starting to leak after about 4+ years (from too many operator error drops I'm sure). It paid for itself many times over. This new DX-8800 has been used for about a week now and its obviously another solid Rowenta iron we look forward to using for some time. It makes even shorter work of my self-ironed work dress shirts, pants and on the rare occasion that I iron jeans, the extra steam burst will lay em flat in no time. The 1750 watts on this unit trump the 1400 or 1500 on the prior Rowenta and even then it seemed to be alot of power/steam. I purchased this with a credit card that will extend the great 1 yr mfg warranty another full year. What else can I say, SOLD! UPDATE: I tried updating this review last week but it didn't stick for some reason. This iron is almost 2 months into daily use for a family of 3 and its still laying any fabric flat in no time. I am updating this review to add what I meant to acknowledge the first time. Rowenta's may cost more initially but when you factor in the fact that they operate on convenient tap water versus expensive store bought distilled water, over time, the Rowenta wins out for convenience and dollars spent. While others are chasing distilled water, I walk over to the sink and fill it up. Thank you Rowenta! Customer Rating: Summary: Worked great for 2 years Comment: This is my second Rowenta and it seems that they only last 2 years... If I can get parts to fix this one... I'll keep it... Choosing Appliance -> Spoons Buy stainless spoons (both slotted and non-slotted) which are solid and won't bend no matter how tough the job. Also, buy several high quality wooden spoons for stirring delicate dishes like risotto (the sharp edge of a metal spoon would cut or bruise the rice). Choosing Appliance -> Plastic wrap An absolute must with a million and a half uses. But do not buy just any plastic wrap. Go to a restaurant supply store and buy a large roll of restaurant plastic wrap. It sticks much better than the common grocery store plastic wrap and is much cheaper per foot. Rowenta DX-8800 1750-Watt Professional Iron Kitchen tips -> Mixing bowl To hold a mixing bowl in place when you are whipping or blending ingredients, place a damp cloth under the bowl. |
