Customer Reviews of Nordic Ware Rice Cooker
Customer Rating: Summary: Not just a rice cooker Comment: This has become my favorite kitchen appliance. With this cooker, I can cook just about anything and not worry about messy microwave spills. I use it to cook or steam just about anything: white rice, brown rice, soup, rice flavored with soup, rice and veggies, rice with seafood, potatoes, stews, just about anything. I've even done pasta a time or two with no problems. The only down side I've found is minor. You have to be careful taking the top off - it's easy to burn yourself from the steam. That's easy to avoid, though. I already have one steamer. This second one will be for the office. Customer Rating: Summary: Does not work Comment: I bought this based on all of the good reviews it had on Amazon. I tried it several times,(following the directions exactly) and the cooker would not even come close to fully cooking the rice. I would not recommend this to anyone. Customer Rating: Summary: Doesn't work Comment: Maybe it's good for white rice. I don't know. Doesn't work for brown rice. Customer Rating: Summary: Pretty good but not perfect Comment: I think it's pretty good but not perfect. The construction of the lid seems overly complex to me. It makes fine rice, but I'd like to see the lid construction simplified. It does make good rice for me. It took a little experimentation to get it right with my microwave (they all seem a little different). Customer Rating: Summary: Love the Rice Cooker/Vegetable Steamer Comment: Well, it's been a month and I finally made some brown rice.... and my favorite, steamed broccoli. The rice (TJs Brown Basmati) I cooked for 20 minutes at 50% power level and followed instructions on bag which said 2 Cups water, 1 Cup rice. After 20 minutes, there was still water left and rice was still hard so I cooked for an additional 12 minutes at 50% level and that did the trick. It was perfect... I did let it sit for a few minutes and it fluffed up beautifully. As for the broccoli, I followed instructions 3-4 minutes on high, not vented... then let it sit closed for an additional 3-4 minutes, so I did 3 and 3, because I like it just barely softened and very green. Not sure I saved much time (15 mins total), but I didn't have to watch either of these. I was doing other things while they cooked away. Maybe I'll buy another so I can do them sort of simultaneously, as this is a favorite meal. A great value too. More Reviews (By:-NordicWare) Rice Cooker Microwave CookwareNordicware s high heat microwave cookware is freezer to microwave to table ready Most pieces are regular to oven safe to 400 degrees and dishwasher safe Fast and simple Cooks rice in minutes Also great for steaming vegetables 8 cup capacity of cooked rice/// Choosing Appliance -> Strainers We recommend 2 strainers for every kitchen. The first is a solid stainless steel colander (one big enough to wash a lot of lettuce at once). The second strainer is a fine mesh conical strainer (called a chinois) which is a must for any serious sauce or stock making. A chinois is an expensive purchase, but with care it will last many years. Choosing Appliance -> Built-in Ovens Ease of cleaning is well worth considering at the outset. Stay clean liners resist dirt build-up but pyrolitic cleaning is the ultimate. It burns off all baked-on debris at 500°C so that all you have to do is sweep out the resulting ash. Look out for ovens with a steam cleaning facility, too, and remember that some ovens have removable inner doors that are easy to clean. Nordic Ware Rice Cooker Useful info -> Taps The three-way tap delivers hot and cold water independently or mixed just like a normal kitchen mixer. For purified water in some cases, the centre lever or handle on the tap body is selected, and cold water is diverted to the purification unit which is fitted neatly away under the sink. After purification, the water is channelled through its own waterway inside the tap to deliver purified water at the point-of-use. Alternatives to this delivery system are also available. |
