Customer Rating:  Summary: Great Dishes Comment: After obsessing over what dishes to buy for over a year, I bought these dishes a couple of months ago. These are great dishes, practical and beautiful! They do not get hot in the microwave. They are tough, and do not chip or break easily, and clean easily. They are a nice weight, not super light, not heavy. They arrived via Amazon in perfect condition. They make everyday food feel special. I highly recommend them! Customer Rating: Summary: Beautiful dishes but problem in shipping Comment: My set arrived yesterday and look beautiful. Clearly, too soon to know how durable the set will be. Like another reviewer below, two plates arrived in pieces (I suspect the breakage was the fault of the manufacturer since the shipping carton showed zero evidence of being mishandled). I called Amazon customer service and there was no problem with getting a partial refund. The refund offered covered the cost of replacement. Amazon wouldn't have spare plates in inventory, so I understand a refund (or shipping the set back which I didn't want to do) is all that could be done. So, there is some risk in ordering from Amazon vs. Mikasa directly or a store that carries replacement inventory (like Macy's where I ordered the replacement places). In the end, I would order again through Amazon because it wasn't that much of a hassle to replace the plates at no cost to me. Customer Rating:  Summary: Nine years of daily use Comment: This is the pattern we chose for our wedding, nine years ago. We have used it daily since. It is not perfect. We break dishes -especially the teacups and coffee/tea pots. Every once in a while one will crack in the microwave. The cereal bowls have marks in them. These flaws are the nature of ceramics, and to be expected with normal use. All in all, they are in good shape after nine years, and I still like them. They set a pretty table, and I like using my "wedding china" everyday. Customer Rating: Summary: Don't hesitate to buy this set Comment: This set of stoneware is beautiful and functional. I plan to use it for everyday but it is perfect for special occasions. The dishes arrived quickly and were packaged well. Every piece of the set was perfect. I did hesitate to order because I worried about breakage but my worries disappeared when all the dishes were unpacked without any problems. It was great tracking the shipment and then knowing it would be delivered today was exciting. I am pleased with AMAZON and their prompt service. I will definitely be ordering from them in the future. More Reviews The stunning simplicity of this dinnerware will lend elegance to any tabletop. Ribbed accents and a scroll border trim combine for tactile interest. Set includes 8 dinner plates, 8 salad plates, 8 soup plates, 8 cups, 8 saucers, 1 vegetable bowl, 1 buffet platter, 1 covered sugar bowl and 1 creamer. 
Choosing Appliance -> Cutting boards There seems to be little difference between hard wood and plastic cutting boards from a safety standpoint, as long as they are properly washed and sanitized after each use. Personally, I like the feel of solid wood. One piece of advice--buy large cutting boards. Don't bother with these tiny boards that everyone seems to have in his or her kitchen. They are not user friendly. Once you get down to serious cutting or chopping, the small boards are always woefully inadequate and downright maddening! Choosing Appliance -> Sinks Consider which accessories might be beneficial. Many models can be supplied with a draining basket, chopping board and strainer bowls. Kitchen tips -> Too salty soup If your soup becomes too salty when you are preparing it, try adding a teaspoon of sugar and a teaspoon of cider vinegar to combat the saltiness. Another method to try is to add a raw potato to the soup to absorb some of the extra salt |
