Customer Rating:   Summary: Not too hot to handle Comment: These handle holders work well for handles that are not blazing hot. I would like them to have a silicone layer inside so that if the skillet is blazing hot the handle holders would protect my hands from the heat. They are a bit large for the Lodge Logic cast iron skillet handles and I would have liked them a bit more snug so they would feel more secure, not as if the skillet could slip sideways. I gave them 4 stars because they are well made, function as well as any other handle holder I've ever had, and for the price do the job they were made to do. Customer Rating: Summary: Get a few of these -- you'll need them Comment: We invested in cast-iron cookware recently and bought two packages of these. They are fantastic. They get warm from the heat, but never hot. I tried keeping them on the handles all the way while I cooked, but found that they can burn if they're too close to the flame (I guess that is pretty obvious!) However, if you pull them off the handle halfway so that they are away from the flame, you won't lose them and they'll be there when you need to move the pot. Definitely required for Lodge cookware. Customer Rating: Summary: Good Quality Hot Pad For A Cast Iron Skillet Comment: This is a heavy, good quality fitted hot pad for your cast iron skillet. I have used these hot pads to remove 400F skillets from a hot oven. The skillet had been used to bake cornbread. The hot pad protected my hand from the hot skillet handle while I transfered it from oven to counter. I would buy these again. Choosing Appliance -> Stainless steel bowls These are the best all purpose bowls for a multitude of applications. Choose a wide range of sizes (be sure to get a large bowl for whipping egg whites and whipped cream). In general, the heavier the bowl, the higher quality. Choosing Appliance -> Food Processor This is a big ticket item, but worth its weight in gold. It will save so much time when it comes to simple chopping or more advanced preparations like mayonnaise. As with most things, buy quality-- it will last longer, be capable of tougher jobs, and give you less problems. Useful info -> Dishwashers A concealed heating element reduces the risk of lightweight plastic items such as children's drinking cups melting onto it after becoming dislodged mid-cycle. Limescale build-up is also prevented. Some manufacturers now produce models with the concealed heating element coiled around the water inlet pipe for further energy efficiency. |
