Finally ended up using a clam knife and a hammer on those, but tossing a few because they were just too hard to open. This device is a dream. Place even the toughest clam on the platform slice it down with the knife/opened and without any effort, poof, they are open. Granted, sometimes a half of the clam may crack, but you only need the other half to scoop the contents into. Would buy it again, Wish I had it years ago. Take it out on a week night for a half dozen clam treat. Clams on the half shell are not just for holidays anymore. Choosing Appliance -> Do I need a dishwasher? If you enjoy washing by hand, no! However modern machines use less water, detergent and power than ever before and wash hotter using really powerful cleaners giving a hygienic wash result. You can save around 500 hours a year so it is worth thinking about. If you have a small kitchen or live alone, choose a slimline model. Choosing Appliance -> Strainers We recommend 2 strainers for every kitchen. The first is a solid stainless steel colander (one big enough to wash a lot of lettuce at once). The second strainer is a fine mesh conical strainer (called a chinois) which is a must for any serious sauce or stock making. Useful info -> Fridge / Freezers No new fridge or fridge/freezer should contain CFCs (chlorofluorocarbons) or HFCs (hydroflourocarbons), which have been linked to the "Greenhouse Effect". However your old fridge may contain them, so please dispose of it thoughtfully. Your local authority should be able to give you some advice and guidelines. |
