Customer Reviews of Holmes HQH319-U Quartz Tower Heater with 1-Touch Electronic Thermostat

Summary: Decent heat but not overwhelming
Comment: I purchased this Holmes Quartz heater about a month ago for my wife, who likes a *lot* of heat. She did not find it adequate -- it puts out a decent amount of heat, but it is not "burning" by any means. On a freezing day it does not heat her 12x12 office to 75+ degrees as she likes it. She switched to a heater with a parabolic "satellite dish" to focus the heat directly at her. That parabolic heater does not warm the office either, but it heats up anything right in front of it, to the point of discomfort, which is how she likes it!

I'm not "cold-blooded" like my wife, and I find the Holmes heater quite acceptable. Running it for 15 minutes warms up my 15x15 office for a few hours on a freezing day. The fan is a bit noisy like a typical desktop oscillating fan, but it's just more white noise in the office. The safety features are good, and maybe you'll like the thermostat control, though a simple on/off switch is enough for me.

Summary: excellent heater
Comment: this heater does an excellent job, it is easy to use and thus far quite reliable. the only design changes that would be helpful, would be a slightly altered hand hold for moving it from place to place, and an adjustment to the on off button so that it could be shut off by pressing an on off button separately from the thermostat button.

Comment: Arrived in 2 days; portable, easy to operate, keeps furnace from kicking on as much.

Summary: You Will be Pleased
Comment: I needed a space heater for a 650 sq ft room where I spend most of my day. I placed this heater behind my desk about 4 feet from where I work and under a window. I am pleasantly warm and during the day the room even warms nicely. Don't expect this heater to be a room heater. It is meant to warm objects near it and this it does wonderfully. I keep the main furnace thermostat about 4 degrees less than the heater thermostat and the main furnace only kicks off when I shut off the space heater at night. I highly recommend the Holmes Quartz heater for those who are fairly stationary during those cold days, but want to be warm without constantly running the main house furnace/heating system.

Choosing Appliance -> Ovens
Most avid bakers prefer separate, even-heat double electric ovens. If that describes you - and you have the space - be sure one of the ovens is equipped with a broiler that provides at least 3,000 watts of cooking power. Also look for racks that pull all the way out and lock in place for safe, easy access to the oven. On the inside, a dark interior shows less baked-on grime, while a porcelain interior is easier to clean
Choosing Appliance -> Cooking Pans
This is another area where spending money is justified. The best pans combine different metals like aluminum or copper on the outside and stainless steel on the inside. Aluminum and copper are valued for their ability to spread heat evenly over the entire pan, and stainless steel is valued for its non-reactive qualities. Buy pans which are heavy and thick with solid handles that are well fastened to the pot. As with knives, buy the highest quality cooking pans you can afford one at a time, starting with a saute pan and a 3 qt. sauce pan. They will last forever. At some point, a stock pot (which will be especially pricey) should be considered for serious cooking.

Tips How to Maintain Appliance -> Maximize the efficiency of appliances
You can also maximize the efficiency of appliances you already own through regular maintenance and tune-ups and system upgrades. Examples of some things that you can do are:
  • Check air filters in heating and cooling systems monthly during the seasons they are in use and clean and replace them as necessary.
  • Clean air vents, baseboards, and radiators regularly and keep them unrestricted by furniture, carpets, or drapes.
  • Release trapped air from hot water radiators once or twice a season by opening the valve until nothing but water comes out.
  • Follow prescribed maintenance (e.g., maintaining certain water levels in steam heat systems).
  • Install an insulating jacket on your hot water heater, insulate hot water pipes, and lower the water heater temperature.
  • Clean refrigerator coils yearly and maintain internal temperatures between 36 degrees F (2.2 degrees C) and 38 degrees F (33 degrees C) for the refrigerator compartment and between 0 degrees F (17.8 degrees C) and 5 degrees F (15.0 degrees C) for the freezer compartment.
  • Move the refrigerator if it is currently located near the stove or dishwasher.
  • Regularly defrost refrigerators that do not have a completely automatic defrost capability to eliminate ice build-up on interior coils.
  • Clean dryer filters after each use or as necessary.
