Comment: I bought this thinking I would save space and money buying just one vacuum for my hard wood and carpeted floors. I tend to go through vacuums quickly (3 vacuums in 3 years) but Hoover is always highly rated so I thought this would be a good choice. It is cool and new but it isn't proven.

The belt broke on the first one (that is one of their selling points, you don't have to replace belts or filters) in the first month but we were still under warranty, so they replaced it. Six months later while vacuuming it shot out a fire ball across my floor and wouldn't work so (thank goodness, still under warranty) we took it in to be repaired for free; although you have to take it to certain "authorized" repair shops. The first one refused to repair it because she didn't like it, so we had to drive to another state to get it repaired.

After the repair it lasted about six more months. It now has no suction and won't even pick up dust bunnies . We checked for blockages and we still can't get it to suck anything up. Plus the hose broke so while your vacuuming it will unscrew from it's handle and snap back to the vacuum. Screws keep falling off of different sections and the pins that hold the accessories cover come out from the vacuum vibrations. We no longer have a warranty though.

I will say that while it worked, it had great suction. The very long hose was great. It stores the attachment on it and it's bagless which means you can retrieve sucked up socks, coins and Bionicle parts when needed (I love that). It is very, very, very heavy though (I think it may actually out weigh me?)

It's great concept, but it needs a lot more work to make it worth buying. I am actually kind of embarrassed that I bought it when I could have bought a reliable, proven vacuum for half the price.

Summary: Excellent
Comment: Ok, I've gotta say, this vacuum is amazing. My wife and I purchased this vac at a local home improment store shortly after getting engaged and buying our first house. This vac has withstood more use and work in 1 year than most vacs would go through in about 5 years and never once has it let us down. We have 4 cats in a house that is only about 1200 sq ft., so you can only imagaine how many times a week we have to use this thing. The only downside I can see in this thing is the size of the dirt cup. Hoover, maybe make an upgrade cup or something, just a little advice. But if you use the vac as much as we do, you have to empty it often anyway. Either way you look at it this vac is great, easy to use, and not to mention the rediculouly long hose is a life saver, powerful and very well made. Props to hoover on this one. Equally as good, if not better than the overpriced Dyson vacs!!

Summary: The SUV of vacuum cleaners...sans power steering.
Comment: This is the vac for people who like exercise. I'm referring to using the hose option. One really has to pull to get it to extend. But a person certainly can't say it's cheaply made...the hose that is. And the dirt cup is considered by many to be small...that's so you can stop and rest...it's good that's it's on the small side. If a person got off their cell-phone and vacuumed every week they couldn't tell that it was on the small side, so there.
Hoover closed their Ohio Headquarters and Amazon apparently is helping them move to Texas by selling their inventory at great prices. Thanks Amazon, now I won't have to lug this vac up and down the stairs, being that I now have two.

Summary: Everything You Never Asked for in a Vacuum Cleaner
Comment: I purchased the Hoover "Z" Bagless a few months ago, based on little other than how cool it looked sitting there in my local home supply store. The price, at $99.00 new in the box, was too tempting to resist. I figured if it delivered on half the amazing benefits touted on the package, I'd be delighted. Owning a house with beige wall-to-wall carpet demands quite the upkeep.

The first thing I noticed unpacking it is the heft. It is no lightweight. "Fine", I thought, "as long as it's powerful." But it's not. At least not compared to the 18 year old Hoover it replaced. In the Z's defense, I did manage to fill up its dust cup quickly. The problem is, as it approached capacity it would begin to moan ever louder and pick up ever less.

The design for the cup is such that some dirt invariably spills out on the vacuum and floor whenever you remove it-- unpleasant when trying to keep things tidy. Also, if you have any long-haired residents in your house, expect to be cutting strands off the roller more often. The bristles grab threads and hair and bind them to the roller. I had to remove the base plate and to slice them off. In use, the telescoping handle is rubbery- it flexes and wiggles as you wrestle the machine around.

There is a pull ring which lets you fold the vacuum down into a 'crouching lion' pose (approximating a canister vacuum), but the power head does not detach for separate use as you might expect. Instead, about the only thing it does is take up slightly less room in this position. There are two bulbous compartments holding the motor and power cord protruding on either side of the handle, and they are often in the way as you maneuver around obstacles. The cord compartment also holds the attachments (crevice tool, upholstery brush, etc) but they fall off their clips and are best stored elsewhere. The tool hose stretchs the length of a flight of stairs, a nice feature. Although the power head is low profile for getting under furniture, there is no light to see anything once there.

In summary, there is not much to recommend this vacuum, even if you manage to buy it cheaply like I did. I'm just glad I didn't throw out my old one!

Summary: Love it, Doesn't lose suction
Comment: I have been looking for a vacuum that has no filters to change ever. My last bagless had 3 different filters and every time one got just a little dirty I lost all suction. Not to mention the yearly expense with all those filters. This Vacuum is great, very powerfull. When I am done it really feels like my house is clean. I Love the digital carpet and bare floor settings - very convenient. The dirt cup is small but I just empty it every time I vacuum. I have a cat and dog and it picks up the Pet hair great. Highly recommended!!

Choosing Appliance -> Shopping Washer
When shopping for a new washer, look for a front loading (horizontal-axis) machine. This machine may cost more to buy but uses about a third of the energy and less water than a top-loading machine. With a front loader, you'll also save more on clothes drying, because they remove more water from your clothes during the spin cycle. Look for the Energy Star label.
Choosing Appliance -> Taps
If you want a sink with large bowl dimensions to cope with big-pan washing-up, it is worth considering a tap with a pull-out or pull-down spray rinse. This gives you water anywhere you need it around the bowl area.
