Customer Reviews of Capresso 454 CoffeeTEAM-S Coffee Maker/Burr Grinder Combination
Customer Rating: Summary: Capresso perfection Comment: This is a wonderful coffee maker. I love how it grinds the whole beans in a compartment away from the water and filter compartments. This keeps the steam away from the grinder and the grounds do not get caked in. I fill the grinder with beans and add the water to the reservoir the night before, setting the timer for the morning. It makes wonderful coffee from the fresh beans. I definately recommend this coffee maker. Customer Rating: Summary: Good Coffee, but.... Comment: I bought this product about 6 years ago. I was impressed from the first brew. The coffee was great! The freshly ground beans seemed to make the difference. Then as time went by, certain plastic parts of the machine began to warp from heat exposure. I've had to replace the cover over the ground beans twice already. It has always leaked a little water and as time has worn on it leaks pretty badly today. Out of 10 cups of water we rarely get more than 5 cups of coffee. In the beginning the loss was less than a cup. The condensing steam flows out from the chamber directly over the ground beans and down the outside of the chamber. It's not corrected by cleaning or any other method we've tried. It still makes pretty good coffee, but I'll be looking for another type when we need to replace this one.+ Customer Rating: Summary: great coffee Comment: We have three homes and three Capressos. They grind the coffee beans as you make it. For the price, I can't think of a better coffee maker. Customer Rating: Summary: Built-in obsolescence Comment: I did not purchase this item from Amazon, but bought it from a pricey local kitchen gourmet store. My husband and I gave it to ourselves for Christmas. We have owned it nearly 2 years now. Pros: I liked the ability to grind and brew without forethought Cons: You really have no control of how strong the coffee will be, if you like it strong and make a full pot. You must depend on Capresso to grind the right amount of coffee. The only control is to tell it you are making a full pot, and then only use half the water. Another con: like many other reviewers, I lost the ability to grind the coffee altogether-not because there was any problem with the grinder, but because the LEDs, the master control of the unit went bonkers. I was able to set it once, when the light from my kitchen window shone on it just so, so I left it on that setting and didn't mess with the grinder anymore. That's all fine and good, until the next power outage. So, we have a coffeemaker which makes mediocre coffee (the water temp is waaay too low) and a huge grinder attached to it that is virtually useless. I paid $299 for this machine. Daily trips to Starbucks, while probably more expensive, at least would make me feel as if I had gotten my money's worth. Customer Rating: Summary: great grind and brew machine, DISPLAY ALWAYS BREAKS Comment: Really like our capresso Machine, that being said, we are on our second and it needs replacing now too due to the display being broken AGAIN. We drink A LOT of coffee so we are always getting fresh grinds, and the taste cannot be beat. But beware of the display, it will break. also has to be held over the sink for the first pour as it spills. Going to try the thermal carafe one now.... Choosing Appliance -> Built-in Ovens Keen cooks may want to take advantage of multi-function ovens - usually aimed at the top end of the market. As well as traditional cooking, fan or fan-assisted cooking and grilling, these ovens offer up to nine further functions. These include: Top element only (browning), bottom element (final cooking of pastry dishes or pizzas), fan and bottom element (delicate cooking), fan only (thawing). Choosing Appliance -> Cooking Pans This is another area where spending money is justified. The best pans combine different metals like aluminum or copper on the outside and stainless steel on the inside. Aluminum and copper are valued for their ability to spread heat evenly over the entire pan, and stainless steel is valued for its non-reactive qualities. Buy pans which are heavy and thick with solid handles that are well fastened to the pot. As with knives, buy the highest quality cooking pans you can afford one at a time, starting with a saute pan and a 3 qt. sauce pan. They will last forever. At some point, a stock pot (which will be especially pricey) should be considered for serious cooking.
