The absence of soup bowls retards it from being used as a formal place setting (unless you never plan on serving a soup course). The appearance and quality is good. The only drawback I have found is the inconsistency of the plates when stacked. Otherwise, your guests would never know that they are misformed. The lid for the sugar bowl does not fit properly and looks cheap - although that may merely be with the set I received. Simply shaped, the glossy white porcelain is banded with not one but two broad bands of gleaming platinum, the outer band slightly wider than the inner. With no other patterning or details, the dinnerware is effortlessly accessorized with table linens of any color or design, and fine crystal stemware, suiting either a contemporary or traditional décor. Just about everything needed to fully set a table for eight is included in this 45-piece set. The set includes eight of each of the following: dinner plate, salad plate, bread-and-butter plate, teacup, and saucer, as well as an oval platter, round vegetable bowl, covered sugar bowl, and a creamer. While not suitable for use in the microwave or oven, the china is dishwasher-safe on a low heat setting, which certainly saves time on clean-up. Choosing Appliance -> Ladles Look for ladles that are made of one piece of stainless steel rather than a handle and dome which are spot welded together. With use, spot welded ladles tend to come apart. Buy several differnet sizes. Choosing Appliance -> Do I need a dishwasher? If you enjoy washing by hand, no! However modern machines use less water, detergent and power than ever before and wash hotter using really powerful cleaners giving a hygienic wash result. You can save around 500 hours a year so it is worth thinking about. If you have a small kitchen or live alone, choose a slimline model. Kitchen tips -> Rice cooking Add a few drops of lemon juice and a teaspoon of oil to rice when cooking. This will allow the rice to separate and not stick together after it is cooked. You can also try just adding a tablespoon of vinegar to the water to prevent rice from sticking |
