Customer Reviews of Mikasa Antique White 5-Piece Pasta Set
Customer Rating: Summary: Warning -- huge pasta bowl! Comment: The smaller bowls make good serving dishes. The main pasta bowl is HUGE and really useless unless you are serving 20 people. We like the Mikasa Antique white set overall, this set is just too large. Customer Rating: Summary: Very Large Pasta Set Comment: I love the quality and design of the Pasta Set, but the four bowls in the set are very large, 9.5 inches across and well over 2 inches deep. I will probably use the bowls for serving dishes instead of pasta bowls. Even my husbands pasta serving looked too small for the bowl. More Reviews Antique White is one of those versatile dinnerware patterns that dresses up with fine linens for special occasions and adds a hint of elegance to casual, everyday dining. Side panels, scalloped edges, and raised ridges decorate the gleaming off-white porcelain. Chip-resistant, the china is conveniently safe for use in the dishwasher and microwave, and for oven warming at low temperatures. This five-piece set, which includes a large 14-inch serving bowl and four nine-inch, 10-ounce individual bowls, works well for not only hearty portions of pasta but fresh green salad as well. Any of the individual bowls may also double as a serving bowl for side dishes at dinner. Contrasting with the straight, scalloped rims of the place settings, these bowls feature smooth round rims and interiors, with raised panel ridges on the exterior. A wide range of Antique White dinnerware is available from Mikasa. --Ann Bieri What's in the Box Choosing Appliance -> Strainers We recommend 2 strainers for every kitchen. The first is a solid stainless steel colander (one big enough to wash a lot of lettuce at once). The second strainer is a fine mesh conical strainer (called a chinois) which is a must for any serious sauce or stock making. A chinois is an expensive purchase, but with care it will last many years. Choosing Appliance -> Ladles Look for ladles that are made of one piece of stainless steel rather than a handle and dome which are spot welded together. With use, spot welded ladles tend to come apart. Buy several differnet sizes.
