Customer Reviews of Kuhn Rikon Quick Slice Mandoline, Green
Customer Rating: Summary: Cuts Carrots Like Butter Comment: I just returned an expensive mandoline (Oxo, $95 including tax) that couldn't cut anything. Found this Kuhn Rikon julienne slicer on sale online and thought "well, might as well give it a shot, at least if it's junk I won't waste much money." Have to admit I was taken by the pretty green color! Well it arrived last night and I tried it to julienne the exact same things I'd tried to do on the fancy Oxo mandoline: carrots & jicama. It cut them like butter! Perfect julienne strips, and faster than I expected because it cuts on both the down and up strokes. The hand guard held 4 baby carrots securely and there was only a thin strip left over that didn't get julienned (vs the Oxo, where carrots simply would not stay in the hand guard). Another thing I love is, it takes hardly any room to store. I can put it in a drawer, slide it in between pots & pans, or whatever. The hand guard snaps on right over the blades so I don't have to worry about cutting myself. I'm ordering the slicer mandoline today! Much easier just to pull out the slicer I need than to store & switch blades with a bigger mandoline! My only "complaint" is, I wish they sold one that did thicker juliennes so I could make vegetable sticks suitable for dipping or baking into "fries"! It would be so cool if Kuhn would design the slicers to snap together for storage. Customer Rating: Summary: Kuhn Rikon Quick Slice Mandoline Comment: Excellent device. Use it often -- onions, cucumbers, etc... Love it. VERY sharp, though, so be careful using it. More Reviews Our newest mandoline has a double-edged, stainless steel blade so you can cut twice as fast. For stability and ease of use, weve given our mandoline a nonslip grip and feet, a notch for secure bowl rim perching, and a hand guard that doubles as a blade protector for storage. Blade cuts perfect 1/8-inch slices of just about anything from potatoes and carrots to citrus fruits.  Features rubber nonslip feet and notch for bowl rims keep tool securely in place whether used on counters or on top of bowls hand guard keeps fingers away from blade dishwasher safe on upper shelf reduce just about any fruit or vegetable to even slices in a flash cuts perfect 1/8" slices softgrip, nonslip handle double-edged blade slices in two directions Suggested Uses shred cabbage, slice potatoes, carrots, zucchini, fennel, cucumber, lemons, limes, kiwi, even tomatoes Choosing Appliance -> Servicing Your Appliance Buying this "service deal" can be expensive but if you feel happier knowing that you are protected from breakdown for a few years, shop around insurance brokers to see how prices compare. Choosing Appliance -> Food Processor This is a big ticket item, but worth its weight in gold. It will save so much time when it comes to simple chopping or more advanced preparations like mayonnaise. As with most things, buy quality-- it will last longer, be capable of tougher jobs, and give you less problems. To make the food processor easiest to use, leave it on the counter top instead of storing it in a cabinet. Kuhn Rikon Quick Slice Mandoline, Green Kitchen tips -> Onions
