Customer Reviews of Rival SCVI600B-SS Crock-Pot 6-Quart Premium VersaWare Slow Cooker
Customer Rating: Rating: 1/5Rating: 1/5Rating: 1/5Rating: 1/5Rating: 1/5
Summary: There's no "slow" in this slow cooker.
Comment: Even on low, cooksway too fast. Has holes in the lid and all the steam escapes out and food over cooks and is dried out.

Summary: Already need the Ceramic Insert!
Comment: I LOVED this slow cooker until after the 5 or 6th use, the Insert started cracking as soon as I put it on the stove. I am very careful with my appliances and did everything as instructed, so there was absolutely no excuse to why this happened. Now I am looking to purchase the Insert so that I could use it again! Other than the Insert cracking, this was the best cooker that I ever had! (And I have 3 more brands!) I use these Slow Cookers at least twice per week. A great way to feed your family when life gets busy!

Summary: Outstanding product - works great!
Comment: After purchasing a cheaper crock pot for my son away at college, then reading the poor reviews, I did quite a bit of research and bought him this one. He brought it home for summer vacation and fortunately for me, left it here for the time being when he returned to school. We have used it several times, for traditional crock pot cooking and for browning meats on the stove first then the slow cooking. It works great for all the uses it is advertised for. It's really nice to be able to brown a roast as it should be, before cooking it slowly for hours. The timer is very handy also. You don't have to worry that your dinner is overcooking if you don't get home in time. The versatility of use and nice design makes this a great crock pot to own and use. I am really glad I picked this one and would not trade it for any other crock pot.

Summary: Defective material
Comment: Received this crockpot as a gift. Used it three times. Followed all the instructions/directions. On the fourth use, I noticed the stoneware was cracked. Called the company and they said the warranty did not cover it because it was an "old model" manufactured three years earlier, based on some code # on the plug. So, my complaints are poor materials and poor customer service.

Customer Rating: Rating: 3/5Rating: 3/5Rating: 3/5Rating: 3/5Rating: 3/5
Summary: like but with reservations
Comment: Overall I like the crock pot but I agree with other reviewers that the lid is an issue. It feels very fragile and I am scared to death it will break with just a tap. I also am disapointed with the bowl of the pot itself, the bottom middle slopes to the edges and is not flat, so it does not evenly brown. I am finding I am pulling out the frying pan to brown meat and then adding it to the crockpot like I have always done with other crockpots. I don't think I would spend this amount of money for this pot again.

Choosing Appliance -> Baking sheete
Not too much romance here, but essential for any functional kitchen. Buy the heaviest pans possible. Also, you should consider buying a non-stick silicon sheet: they make baking very easy!
Choosing Appliance -> Strainers
We recommend 2 strainers for every kitchen. The first is a solid stainless steel colander (one big enough to wash a lot of lettuce at once). The second strainer is a fine mesh conical strainer (called a chinois) which is a must for any serious sauce or stock making. A chinois is an expensive purchase, but with care it will last many years.

Tips How to Maintain Appliance -> Maximize the efficiency of appliances
You can also maximize the efficiency of appliances you already own through regular maintenance and tune-ups and system upgrades. Examples of some things that you can do are:
  • Check air filters in heating and cooling systems monthly during the seasons they are in use and clean and replace them as necessary.
  • Clean air vents, baseboards, and radiators regularly and keep them unrestricted by furniture, carpets, or drapes.
  • Release trapped air from hot water radiators once or twice a season by opening the valve until nothing but water comes out.
  • Follow prescribed maintenance (e.g., maintaining certain water levels in steam heat systems).
  • Install an insulating jacket on your hot water heater, insulate hot water pipes, and lower the water heater temperature.
  • Clean refrigerator coils yearly and maintain internal temperatures between 36 degrees F (2.2 degrees C) and 38 degrees F (33 degrees C) for the refrigerator compartment and between 0 degrees F (17.8 degrees C) and 5 degrees F (15.0 degrees C) for the freezer compartment.
  • Move the refrigerator if it is currently located near the stove or dishwasher.
  • Regularly defrost refrigerators that do not have a completely automatic defrost capability to eliminate ice build-up on interior coils.
  • Clean dryer filters after each use or as necessary.
