Customer Reviews of Lodge Enameled Cast-Iron 3-Quart Dutch Oven, Caribbean Blue
Customer Rating: Summary: Great Dutch Oven Comment: Love this dutch oven! Great size, love the color & cleanup is a breeze. Very happy with it & purchased through Amazon at a great price. Customer Rating: Summary: Dutch Oven Comment: I like to cook occasionally because I really enjoy it. Many of the recipes I use require some preparation on top of the stove followed by completion in the oven. There are only two of us, and our stainless steel brazing pan is often too large. This 3 quart pan is just the right size for many of our meals. The cast iron distributes the heat evenly, the enamel coating makes it easy for cooking and cleaning, and the blue enamel exterior makes this an attractive dish from which to serve. When recipes call for use of a crock pot, I use this dutch oven because I have more temperature control, and if I need to bring things to a boil during the cooking process it is easy to do. The pan narrows down a little at the bottom which makes it ideal for use on the small burner, and the cast iron quickly distributes the heat throughout. This Dutch oven has become my most used stove top pan after my 10 inch skillet. After all these accolades why only four stars? Because it is heavy, and that is of course what makes it what it is, but my wife finds it too heavy to handle comfortably. Customer Rating: Summary: Cracked enamel Comment: I recently purchased a Lodge Dutch Oven with a gift certificate for my wedding. I expected it to last for years but, within 5 months, it was cracked on the food surface and had to be thrown in the trash. Customer Rating: Summary: Increase the oven tempurature threshold...here's how Comment: This pot is the greatest. Extra plys of enamel, cast iron, heavy -- what's not to like, after all it's a Lodge and in my opinion equals (and in fact surpasses) the French brand any day. BUT, here's a problem I ran into but also conquered and hope this will help someone else with the same question. With the enameled Lodge dutch ovens and casseroles, the knob is only good to 400 degrees in the oven. I needed to increase this threshold to 500 for artisan breads, so here's what I did and it worked like a charm. First I checked another brand of enameled cast iron that was rated to 550 degrees. That particular brand didn't have the quality of enamel as a Lodge but it did live up to the tempurature. So, all that needed changing was the knob on the Lodge and that's what I did. Now my Lodge Enameled Cast Iron is good to go for my artisan bread and I couldn't be happier. This pot is wonderful, heavy duty, and a breeze to clean. No kitchen should be without a quality product such as this. Customer Rating: Summary: Great addition to any kitchen Comment: Bought this 3qt along with a 5qt figuring that would cover my cooking needs for cast-iron cookware( the 5qt has been replaced by a 6qt model but the quality is the same ) and they do. Wasn't quite sure how I was going to store these after I recived them but that worry was quickly dispelled when I found I was using them all the time for almost all my cooking. The large oven is great for making soups and dishes that need the extra space. The 3qt oven is great for oven cooked desserts or stove-top dishes like home-fries, or stir frying vegies. The oven's heat-up quickly and evenly being made of cast-iron and the added versatility of either using them on the stove-top or in the oven means many of my other pots and pans go unused ( beware that they are heavy and require a little extra muscle to move around or clean but you get use to it in no time ). The enameled surface makes for easy clean-up and attractive appearence if you decide to leave them on the stove top or kitchen counter. At this price both are a steal compared to imported cast-iron cookware and are highly recommended by this amateur chef! More Reviews Lodge Color Porcelain Enamel on Cast Iron cookware can be used on gas, electric, ceramic, and induction cooktops, as well as in the oven. The knob is oven save to 400 degrees. Lifetime Warranty. This Dutch Oven with Lid measures 9. 75 inches in diameter and 3 inches in depth. Choosing Appliance -> Shopping Dryer When shopping for a new clothes dryer, look for one with a moisture sensor that automatically shuts off the machine when your clothes are dry. Not only will this save energy, it will save wear and tear on your clothes caused by over-drying. Keep in mind that gas dryers are less expensive to operate than electric dryers. The cost of drying a typical load of laundry in an electric dryer is 30 to 40 cents compared to 15 to 25 cents in a gas dryer. Choosing Appliance -> Strainers We recommend 2 strainers for every kitchen. The first is a solid stainless steel colander (one big enough to wash a lot of lettuce at once). The second strainer is a fine mesh conical strainer (called a chinois) which is a must for any serious sauce or stock making. A chinois is an expensive purchase, but with care it will last many years.
