Customer Rating:   Summary: Not the same old grind Comment: Well made. this product uses too many battteries. Also it should only work when turned upside down. It starts when turned sideways. Also should have a larger reserve for pepper and the grind size is too big even when adjusted Customer Rating: Summary: Good item Comment: My husband and I love this grinder. We actually bought several for gifts and an extra one for ourselves to use as a sea salt grider. Only 2 disadvantages to this grinder (one is why I didn't give it 5 stars). The unit doesn't hold very much product, which means it needs to be re-filled often. In order to re-fill the unit, the base must be removed and the base is quite snug (and is difficut to remove). You want to turn the grinder over to remove the base, which turns the grinder on- that is quite frustrating. To those who would like to use this as a sea salt grinder, beware that it grinds the salt rapidly which can oversalt your food. This is not a disadvantage to the grinder itself as it was not made to be a salt grinder. Other than the above, we love this grinder and think it's a great buy. Amazon also has the best price- I found this grinder at a large national retailer for almost $30.00, so this is a great price!! Customer Rating: Summary: Handy, but not perfect Comment: This is a handy product, but it has a few problems: Pros. 1. Works well and is highly adjustable. 2. I like a lot of pepper. It would sometimes take me a couple of minutes to grind with a manual grinder what I can now grind in seconds. Cons. 1. Grinder stem contains a spring that is easily dislodged. It ends up in the peppercorns if you aren't very careful when refilling. Also, if you accidentally overfill it, the spring will fall out when you empty the excess peppercorns and you will have to get a tool to reinstall it. It's not a huge problem but is mildly annoying. 2. Sounds like an electric pencil sharpener. The motor is a bit loud. A rechargable model might be better. I used Duracell batteries and the required 6 AAA batteries lasted three months. I use it rather intensely 5 days a week, so your mileage may vary. It is as essential as a kitchen stove and should be in everyone's kitchen. Nothing works better for mixing a multitude of different preparations or for making sauces or gravy. Buy a solid stainless steel whip with moderately stiff wires. Very thin wires are for mixing delicate things like egg whites or whipped cream. Very thick, solid wires are for mixing stiff dough. Useful info -> Tips Glassware and dishes should be stored in cabinets or shelves near the sink. Frequently used pots and pans could be stowed between the sink and cook top or from a hanging rack. |
