Customer Reviews of Kyocera Y Peeler, Black
Customer Rating: Summary: Very disappointed in the Cyocera peeler. Comment: I took Alixis Stewart's ( Martha's daughter) advice and ordered this peeler. Sadly it broke after only the second use! Too bad. I thought I had solved my peeler issue! Customer Rating: Summary: Good blade, but poor design and FRAGILE Comment: I have a Kyocera ceramic chef's knife that I have been using for about 7 years as my primary kitchen knife and I've never had to sharpen it. It is almost as sharp now as the day I bought it. Needless to say, I love that knife. About two months ago, I found myself in need of a new peeler, and given my fondness for the Kyocera knife, decided to give this ceramic peeler a try. Sadly, it really is not the same class of utensil. I use the peeler primarily for zesting citrus fruits for use in cocktails, and the ceramic blade handled that job reasonably well. The plastic channel zesters on either side of the blade (for making, say, a lemon twist) are basically worthless. I already had an OXO tool for that purpose, so no worries. But yesterday, after maybe 10 uses in 2 months, the plastic frame that holds the blade snapped into three pieces, rendering the whole thing useless. I'll be replacing it with the OXO Y-Peeler. Customer Rating: Summary: It's okay, but... Comment: I purchased this item because of a review I saw in the local newspaper. I just can't get used to it because it is so lightweight. It does a good job, but peelings get stuck in the blade area frequently and have to be rinsed out. I honestly have been using my old OXO. More Reviews This peeler is composed of a rotating ceramic blade that is non-stick. It will remain free of rust and will not absorb the after taste of food. Choosing Appliance -> Cooking Pans This is another area where spending money is justified. The best pans combine different metals like aluminum or copper on the outside and stainless steel on the inside. Aluminum and copper are valued for their ability to spread heat evenly over the entire pan, and stainless steel is valued for its non-reactive qualities. Buy pans which are heavy and thick with solid handles that are well fastened to the pot. As with knives, buy the highest quality cooking pans you can afford one at a time, starting with a saute pan and a 3 qt. sauce pan. They will last forever. At some point, a stock pot (which will be especially pricey) should be considered for serious cooking. Choosing Appliance -> Stainless steel bowls These are the best all purpose bowls for a multitude of applications. Choose a wide range of sizes (be sure to get a large bowl for whipping egg whites and whipped cream). In general, the heavier the bowl, the higher quality. Kyocera Y Peeler, Black Useful info -> Building-In Range Cookers The building-in range cookers come with fully adjustable legs and a bespoke steel plinth, which enables them to be built-in with any range of kitchen furniture. |
