Customer Reviews of Anchor Hocking Heavy Base 15-Ounce High Ball/Iced Tea Glasses, 12 Pack
Customer Rating: Summary: breaks easily Comment: I purchased this set and have been using it for less than a month. Out of 12 tumblers 6 have broken. These were not dropped..they break during normal washing (hand washing - no dishwasher). Unless you are particularly fond of picking up broken glass or really really enjoy getting deep cuts on your hand(s) stitched, I wouldn't buy these! Customer Rating: Summary: Surprising little things to be displeased about. Comment: Time owned: 1 month Summary: fair quality with some annoyances. Should you buy: probably not. I've got to warn you, I'm going to be a bit critical here. I can see a lot of people love these glasses but for me they weren't so great. Typically we buy our glasses at Ikea. The quality is good and the price is nice. However, with gas prices being what they are, and Ikea not being very close, we decided to try these glasses. Given the fact that there is no shipping charge (I'm with prime) and no taxes, we felt the price was reasonable. The good: 1) They work as intended. 2) They feel durable without feeling "heavy". The bad: 1) Each glass has a UPC sticker that has to be removed. This wastes a little of your time. Its disappointing that they aren't packaged to be sold as a set, you'd think Amazon's selling power would allow this. Sure, other glasses might have this too but I wasn't expecting it since these were sold as a set. 2) The glasses do not fit in the top rack of our dishwasher. Too tall! Never expected this to be a problem, because I've been using a dishwasher for my whole life with countless styles of glasses. Of course, if you hand wash everything, then it doesn't really matter. And, your dishwasher may vary. But this is about my experience, and it happened to me. 3) My wife felt that the design was cheap, it doesn't really look like it does in the picture. When you look at the side there are "ripples" coming up from the bottom. This is partially a visual effect created by the way the glass was formed, but it was really unwanted by my wife. It doesn't have the "clean design" kind of look shown in the picture. So, we're disappointed. Keeping them, because its not worth returning them ... they DO work. Would no't have picked them out if we saw them in a store. Customer Rating: Summary: Good product, great price Comment: We had been looking for a clean, simple design and found it in this glass. Good quality, great price. Customer Rating: Summary: Poor Quality Comment: I sent these back because they were so poor quality. They looked as if approximately 1/3 of them were seconds. Many of the rims had noticeable imperfections, I guess where they poured the glass. One of the glasses was also cracked. Fortunately Amazon was good as always and took them back. Customer Rating: Summary: I hate the packaging! Comment: Be forewarned. These are NOT retail glasses. These are bulk-packed in a box and LABELED for individual resale. What that means is that they come with stickers/UPC labels on each individual glass. The stickers are impossible to remove. I have returned other kitchen products because of this. I have only used 5 so far because it takes 5-7 minutes with a razor blade, tape, and acetone to clean off the stickers (which are cheap paper and use a permanent adhesive). Otherwise, these are unimpressive, basic glasses that all have a weird glass drip at the lip from manufacturing. If these were retail packaging and didn't have the stickers, I would have given them 4 stars for just basic, cheap glassware. Unless your time is worth nothing or you like stickers on your glasses, these are just not worth the effort. I'm sure some guy at Anchor Hocking got a bonus for saving 1 cent per glass by using such evil stickers. I won't be completing this set. More Reviews Choosing Appliance -> Whip / Whisk Many still consider a whip as a "gourmet" piece of kitchen equipment. Nothing could be further from the truth. It is as essential as a kitchen stove and should be in everyone's kitchen. Nothing works better for mixing a multitude of different preparations or for making sauces or gravy. Buy a solid stainless steel whip with moderately stiff wires. Very thin wires are for mixing delicate things like egg whites or whipped cream. Very thick, solid wires are for mixing stiff dough. Choosing Appliance -> Mixer Pretty much the same thoughts as the food processor. High quality mixers are great for making bread or other tough jobs. Every kitchen should have one. Be sure that any mixer has all three attachments: paddle, dough hook, and whip. Also, find a spot on the counter where it can be easily accessed at a moment's notice. Anchor Hocking Heavy Base 15-Ounce High Ball/Iced Tea Glasses, 12 Pack Tips How to Maintain Appliance -> Natural Granite Maintenance Granite must not be rubbed with abrasive materials instead, wash with clean warm water to which a non-abrasive light neutral detergent (PH7) may be added. Rinse with clean warm water and dry with a chamois leather or similar. Drainer Grooves can be cleaned using wire wool. |
