Customer Reviews of Portmeirion Botanic Garden Two-Tier Cake Server
Customer Rating: Summary: Not English Portmeirion and very low quality. Comment: I just bought and am promptly returning this item. I purchased many of my Botanic Garden line items in England and a few in the US. The quality was great in the Made in England pieces. This cake stand I just received this month May 2008 was really inferior to my other pieces. I had planned to use it for an English tea with friends, but I don't feel I can put this on the table alongside my other pieces. The inferiority will jump out. The surfaces of the plates have tiny pock marks all over, especially the larger sized plate. The larger plate also is slightly bowed upward in the middle. The metal rods that are supposed to hold the plates together are really scratched up with a lousy finish in general. The screw at the bottom of the rod is a cheap, partially oxidized piece of aluminum-looking metal. I keep better screws in my toolbox than this one. If you want something that looks good from 3 feet away, this product is fine. But if you want people to sit around the table and admire it while enjoying a nice nibble, this product will not be acceptable. Customer Rating: Summary: great for tea and cookies Comment: This goes so nice with the tea set. Great for tea and cookies. Really pretty. Nicely packed and safely shipped on time. Customer Rating: Summary: Beautiful and a Great Price! Comment: I have been collecting this pattern for years, and this particular item on Amazon is a great buy! Be aware that many Portmeirion Botanic Garden products are now being manufactured in China and the quality of them has decreased considerably. I am pretty sure this one is made in England. More Reviews A 2007 addition to Portmeirion's perennially popular and ever-evolving Botanic Garden tableware pattern, this two-tier cake server is an Amazon exclusive. Each white porcelain tier features a hand-decorated selection from the collection's vast repertoire of 19th-century botanical illustrations. The upper, smaller tier showcases the light and deep pink petals of the graceful fuchsia flower with blue and yellow butterflies in attendance. The lower, larger tier is adorned with the purple and white Sweet William with its own bevy of butterflies joined by a curious little bird. The names of both plants are listed in old-fashioned typeface and Botanic Garden's signature laurel-leaf accent motif rings the rims. Connecting the two tiers is a lustrous gold-tone post with ring handle. The metal fitting is removable for easy cleaning. Some assembly is required. --Kara Karll Choosing Appliance -> Stainless steel bowls These are the best all purpose bowls for a multitude of applications. Choose a wide range of sizes (be sure to get a large bowl for whipping egg whites and whipped cream). In general, the heavier the bowl, the higher quality. Choosing Appliance -> Fridge / Freezers By law manufacturers must disclose the energy efficiency of their appliances, rated A to G. These are usually displayed prominently in showrooms. The better the rating, the more energy efficient the appliance is - good for both the environment and your pocket. Portmeirion Botanic Garden Two-Tier Cake Server Kitchen tips -> Onion To produce good tasting, crisp onions, slice or chop onions and place them in a bowl. Cover the onions with water and then add some ice to the water. Let the onions soak for 15 minutes to an hour and then drain before serving |
