Customer Rating:   Summary: Nice humidifier with some small quirks Comment: I've used this humidifier for one winter so far. It did pretty well as humidifiers go. I recommend it with the following caveates: 1. I would not say the filters are permenant. I'd be leary of any humidifier with "permenant filters". The reality is, they build up mineral deposits. I guess I could have tried to wash them out, but I chose to replace them. The replacements range from 11.00 on Ebay to about 16.00 on Amazon (as of 5/2008). You can find replacements but NOT from the manufacturer. 2. When using the automatic feature (which turns the unit off when the proper humidity is reached), the unit tends to cycle on and off multiple times at the set value. I don't know if the sensor is too sensitive, but it is a bit annoying to hear it turn on and off about 5 or more times until it decides to stay off. Also, I would not call the unit a quiet unit at high speed. Since I like white noise, I didn't mind it as much, but others may have a different opinion. Customer Rating: Summary: Great humidifier until you have to replace "permanent" wick Comment: This unit worked really great until the wick suddenly got a bacterial (?) buildup in just a few months. We searched for a replacement wick and discovered on the Bionaire website that they do not make one. So it is basically a disposable unit. What a waste - buy something else. Customer Rating: Summary: Worthless because the filter is NOT permanant. Comment: It would be a great product if the "permanent filters" were perm. but they aren't. They get dirty and collect impurities from the water. If you have hard water the filters won't last very long. It maybe possible to use filters made for a similar humidifier in this one. But I do not know yet. UPDATE: I am using filters for another Bionaire humidifier in this. It works great. I'm changing my rating to 4 stars, because with replaceable paper filters, this thing ROCKS! Choosing Appliance -> Whip / Whisk Many still consider a whip as a "gourmet" piece of kitchen equipment. Nothing could be further from the truth. It is as essential as a kitchen stove and should be in everyone's kitchen. Nothing works better for mixing a multitude of different preparations or for making sauces or gravy. Buy a solid stainless steel whip with moderately stiff wires. Very thin wires are for mixing delicate things like egg whites or whipped cream. Very thick, solid wires are for mixing stiff dough. Choosing Appliance -> Plastic wrap An absolute must with a million and a half uses. But do not buy just any plastic wrap. Go to a restaurant supply store and buy a large roll of restaurant plastic wrap. It sticks much better than the common grocery store plastic wrap and is much cheaper per foot. Useful info -> Water Filters Very few people buying a new kitchen do so today without the offer of a water filter system as part of the deal. Water filters are taking by storm as the man and woman in the street discover that they can have the luxury of pure, clean tasting water in their kitchens for far less than the cost of a pint of milk a day! The water filter systems knock the costs associated with bottled water for six. Especially when you have virtually unlimited quantities of the stuff, pouring from a tap in your kitchen! |
