Customer Rating:   Summary: Great idea , mediocre execution Comment: When it works, it works quite well. However, almost 1/2 of the time it ends up with it NOT creating an airtight vacuum. And without pressing the air release it is almost impossible to determine if it is a airtight fit. Customer Rating: Summary: Good product Comment: This is a really simple, useful product. I use it to store my coffee beans and it keeps them fresh. The container is made of durable plastic and seems solidly made. I'll probably pick up a couple more. Customer Rating: Summary: Vacu Vin Comment: Works like a champ so far-have had it for about 3 weeks. However people say they implode putting it in the fridge. I put it in there FIRST with it's top not on it but in there with it to 'pre-cool' it for several hours first. Haven't had any trouble with it preserving lunch meat ,etc. They'll keep for 2 or 3 mos. in a vacuum with the 'bags' from another co. but they're a pain (the bags),so this is the way to go for me! I looked all over for the kind of coffee container Alton suggested, without any luck, but in the search discovered the Vacu Vin. This is awesome. I am going to get some more to use for other things This really works great. I have fresh, non-stale coffee beans, and it is so easy to use. The container protects from light. The vacuum mechanism, while simple to use, maintains an airless environment for coffee storage. Also these containers can be used for other food storage. Really, a well made product. More Reviews The vacuum storage container preserves food by keeping out air and light to keep food fresh. Tinted container protects from harmful effects of light and seals out air to preserve taste and crispness. 
Choosing Appliance -> Cooking Pans This is another area where spending money is justified. The best pans combine different metals like aluminum or copper on the outside and stainless steel on the inside. Aluminum and copper are valued for their ability to spread heat evenly over the entire pan, and stainless steel is valued for its non-reactive qualities. Buy pans which are heavy and thick with solid handles that are well fastened to the pot. As with knives, buy the highest quality cooking pans you can afford one at a time, starting with a saute pan and a 3 qt. sauce pan. They will last forever. At some point, a stock pot (which will be especially pricey) should be considered for serious cooking. Choosing Appliance -> Dishwashers Check the capacity. 'Standard' 60cm wide dishwashers can take 12, 14 or 16 place settings, whilst slimline 45cm models may cater for 7, 8 or 9 place settings.
