Choose a dishwasher with sturdy compression springs in the door. Also look for tough, lightweight nylon or graphite racks with cushioned tips that protect glassware and cookware. Buy a sturdy stainless spatula for general uses and a Teflon spatula for your non-stick pan. In addition, buy a silicon baking spatula for scraping bowls. Silicon is an amazing substance which is heat resistant up to 550 degrees.

Before carving meat, allow it to stand for 10 to 15 minutes after removing from the heat source to allow the juices to be redistributed through the meat. The standing period will result in firmer, juicier meat and will make carving easier.
