Summary: Cuisinart Cordless Automatic Electric Kettle KUA-17
Comment: I was looking for an electric kettle to boil water for tea that had the heating element hidden from the water. I bought this one because of my experience with other Cuisinart products. They are a little pricey but worth it for the quality. I am very happy with the product and the water is boiled just right.Cuisinart KUA-17 1-3/4-Quart Cordless Automatic Electric Kettle

Summary: Terrible Design -- DO NOT BUY THIS MODEL
Comment: We got this kettle, and it worked well for just under a year. Then it died. The problem had something to do with a faulty connection between the base and kettle, which made it impossible to boil water. I called a Cuisinart office in New Jersey (it was still under warranty), and they offered to replace it for "free," but they charged us shipping both ways. So we got a replacement kettle, which worked for about nine months, and once again the exact same thing happened. It wouldn't boil water anymore. Well, once again, I called them back again, and they sent us another replacement, but charged us shipping again. Clearly, it is most likely only a matter of time before it dies again.

Summary: More Chinese garbage for the landfill
Comment: Very Disappointed. Like most water boilers these days the hot water touches plastic, absorbs plastic molecules (cancer here we come...) smells like plastic and tastes like plastic. I bought another brand many years ago with no plastic parts and was VERY PLEASED. It still works perfectly (at another house on another island...) But now everything's made in China and cheap and unsafe and plastic. The temptation of The Graduate and we're too far down that steep garden path to claw our way back. Not all of us. I tossed mine in the trash so it could find it's final resting place in the landfill as all Chinese product so quickly do; and now I'm back to boiling my water in a big old stainless steel pot Made in Japan. I think I'm over buying new stuff. Got enough stuff to last this incarnation. Except for books. Buy my book on Amazon.

Summary: Best Electric Kettle Ever!
Comment: Cuisinart KUA-17 1-3/4-Quart Cordless Automatic Electric Kettle

I bought this electric kettle to replace a worn out Russell Hobbs, and I'm glad I did.

Not only does the stainless steel Cuisinart KUA-17 look fantastic on the countertop, it has a cordless kettle that easily slips off the black base for easy pouring at any location. There's an automatic shut-off, a LED that lights in the base to show kettle is on, and a nifty cord storage to keep the excess coiled beneath the bottom heating unit.

I do keep water in the kettle, but I only use bottled water so no corrosive buildup. I've had this kettle three years and it works flawlessly, in use at least four times a day. Moreover, I'v purchased this same model for two children and a stepfather and they've had the same results.

Summary: DANGEROUS
Comment: You push the switch DOWN to turn it on, right? Well, my wife (who loves this potential fire hazard and thinks I'm being unfair) only puts one cup of water in at a time, so it's sitting there on the counter empty. And I am putting bags of groceries, or a towel, or something on the counter and ACCIDENTALLY TURNING IT ON WHILE IT IS EMPTY almost every day.

Choosing Appliance -> Grater
In our opinion, the old fashioned box graters work the best since they are sturdy and offer several different grating sizes.
Choosing Appliance -> Cutting boards
There seems to be little difference between hard wood and plastic cutting boards from a safety standpoint, as long as they are properly washed and sanitized after each use. Personally, I like the feel of solid wood. One piece of advice--buy large cutting boards. Don't bother with these tiny boards that everyone seems to have in his or her kitchen. They are not user friendly. Once you get down to serious cutting or chopping, the small boards are always woefully inadequate and downright maddening!

Tips How to Maintain Appliance -> Stainless Steel Maintenance
Wipe away any acid spills such as from vinegar or grapefruit straight away. Never clean the bowl or draining board with an abrasive cleaner. Instead use liquid detergent in warm water and wipe with a soft cloth to remove water drop marks. Care for stainless steel appliance fascias and cabinet fronts in the same way. If choosing stainless steel cabinets, a 'brushed' surface is less likely to show grease from finger marks.
