Customer Rating:  Summary: YOGURT MAKER Comment: At the beginning I was not happy because as I found out later I WAS NOT following instructions correctly. The yogurt maker is awesome. I had a lot of trouble getting the yogurt to be the consistency I wanted because I was not waiting for the milk to reach the right temperature when adding the starter. You do need to wait till the temperature reaches the window it shows in the thermometer the machine brings. (I am using plain yogurt with active cultures as a starter, 2 tablespoons)...Now I get the perfect consistency . I leave the yogurt for 12 hrs and it comes out great! I followed the instructions, plugged the machine in. Within a couple of minutes the casing started to melt. This could have easily caused a fire in our home. I have requested a refund. I use non-fat milk, and make it plain then add whatever sugar free flavors I want at the time that I eat it. I have also made the yogurt cheese and it is also great. I owned a Salton before this and when I moved it was given away...my bad....anyway, Donvier has saved the day for me. I have the extra jars and the cheese maker. I am very happy with this product. Choosing Appliance -> Salad spinner While some may consider this a bit on the gadgety side, I think it is a must as dressings do not stick to water-logged salad greens. Choosing Appliance -> Cutting boards There seems to be little difference between hard wood and plastic cutting boards from a safety standpoint, as long as they are properly washed and sanitized after each use. Personally, I like the feel of solid wood. One piece of advice--buy large cutting boards. Don't bother with these tiny boards that everyone seems to have in his or her kitchen.
