Customer Reviews of West Bend 85156 6-Quart Round Crockery Cooker, Stainless Steel/Black
Customer Rating: Summary: Flaking enamel. . .beware Comment: We got this crockpot about a year ago and have used it maybe 15 times. We hand wash the crockery. The last time we used it, we noticed lots of black flecks in our soup, ranging from tiny (at first we thought it was pepper) to about 1/2 inch in diameter. It was the black enamel of the pot flaking off into our food! When we washed the pot, our sponge was black with enamel. Yuck! I suppose you get what you pay for. Customer Rating: Summary: A great way to cook Comment: I use the crockpot quite a bit, and I own 3 West Bend crockery cookers (including this model). They all work beautifully. Customer Rating: Summary: Great slow cooker Comment: I got this as a gift. I have only used it twice and with great results. The first time I made a pot roast with beef, vegetables and barley. Cooked it for 7.5 hours and it turned out great! The next time I used vegetables, chicken and rice. Since I was going to be away longer and did not want the vegetables to turn to mush, I made a "Hobo" pack- that is, season the veggies, wrap them in foil and placed them over the meat, directly below the lid. The food cooked on low for 10 hours. while the rice was a little mushy, the chicken was great. The stew turned out awesome and the veggies were in a perfect stage of tenderness. This slow cooker did what it needed to do, and I have been pleased with the results. Customer Rating: Summary: Nice Looking Crockpot, But... Comment: I searched high and low for a cooker that is NOT made in the People's Republic of China. I was thrilled when I found this one. Unfortunately, when it came in, we discovered that this appliance **IS** made in China. Amazon, please update your listing. I'm sure I'm not the only person concerned about the fact that everything seems to be made in China anymore. So... Any manufacturer who reads this should be aware that there are those of us who try not be buy Chinese products. Why not make it in Mexico if USA labor is too costly??? More Reviews Wouldn't you love to come home to a hearty hot meal that's ready and waiting? Talk about taking the stress out of the homebound commute! There's plenty of room in this six quart beauty to cook dinner for a large family, or for a smaller family and have leftovers. Clean up is easy with the glass lid and the removable stoneware crock both dishwasher safe. Choosing Appliance -> Baking sheete Not too much romance here, but essential for any functional kitchen. Buy the heaviest pans possible. Also, you should consider buying a non-stick silicon sheet: they make baking very easy! Choosing Appliance -> Ovens Most avid bakers prefer separate, even-heat double electric ovens. If that describes you - and you have the space - be sure one of the ovens is equipped with a broiler that provides at least 3,000 watts of cooking power. Also look for racks that pull all the way out and lock in place for safe, easy access to the oven. On the inside, a dark interior shows less baked-on grime, while a porcelain interior is easier to clean West Bend 85156 6-Quart Round Crockery Cooker, Stainless Steel/Black Kitchen tips -> Sharpening Knife A dull knife is more dangerous than a sharp one, because you apply to it more pressure and force to cut through foods. It can easily slip out of place as you use it and you can harm yourself. Keep your knives in good working condition by sharpening according to their use and time. There's no specified amount of time, because knives vary as much as their use; although, you can easily determine if they need sharpening by the way they cut/slice foods. If a knife can slice through a tomato and tear the skin, then it needs sharpening. If, on the other hand, the cut is clean and quick without any tears, then it needs not be sharpened. |
