Customer Rating:  Summary: Isn't this just the cutest little cooker? Comment: I needed a small cooker for dips, and this unit has proved to be the perfect choice. Well made, inexpensive, and versitile temp control. It will fit in nicely with my two larger cookers. BUT, I've got to question all the reviewers that said it's perfect for small families. How small are we talkin' here? Like Barbie doll size? This is a tiny cooker. It will hold 3-4 chicken breasts, or one very small chicken. It would cook just about the right amount of oatmeal for two adults, but beyond that it's suited for two adult sized entree at best unless you pack it with food and sit on the top. Here's a good small sized recipe: Brown 1.5# of cubed pork chunks(shoulder or butt) and add to cooker with one medium sliced onion, 1 chopped jalapeno pepper with seeds, 1 tbsp salt, 1 tbsp minced garlic(or 4 whole cloves) and one can crushed tomatillos. Cook overnight on low. Fill tortillas and add chopped onion, sour cream, and cheese if you like. Enjoy. Customer Rating: Summary: An excellent slow-cooker Comment: I needed a counter-top friendly utensil, and the usual 4 quart-sized versions were unnecessarily large for most of my needs. This version works perfectly and has three useful settings: "high" heats quickly (to just under boiling, and MUCH faster than my large unit); the medium setting works well for all-day or over-night recipes, and the "keep warm" setting does just that. I use this every day to prepare whole grains or beans, and it's perfect for the purpose. The construction is good and the price is better! Customer Rating: Summary: Good Size for Singles & Couples Comment: This is a good size when you only need to make 2-3 servings of a dish. I use this most often for steel cut oatmeal in the mornings, but also use it for side dishes and smaller meals, or when my 6 quart crockpot is simply too big. I went with this one over the "little dipper" they sell specifically because the crock is removable. It fits pretty well in the dishwasher, which makes for easy cleanup. Choosing Appliance -> Mixer Pretty much the same thoughts as the food processor. High quality mixers are great for making bread or other tough jobs. Every kitchen should have one. Be sure that any mixer has all three attachments: paddle, dough hook, and whip. Also, find a spot on the counter where it can be easily accessed at a moment's notice. Choosing Appliance -> Non-stick Pans We recommend having at least 1 high quality non-stick saute pan. It makes cooking eggs and delicate items like fish a breeze. Kitchen tips -> Parsley To obtain more flavor from parsley, remove the stems and only use the leaves. Use a scissors to cut the leaves into pieces instead of chopping with a knife. Chopping generally causes the leaves to become mushy |
