Customer Rating:   Summary: Nice replacement for my old bread maker Comment: I purchased this item as a replacement for my old bread maker which started to show its age due to heavy use and got slightly damaged from a fall off the counter while kneeding the dough. This new one is fairly heavy which helps to keep it on the counter, actually it barely moving while kneeding. Nice feature is the signal and optional pause to pull out the kneeding blade which takes care of the whole on the bottom of the loaf. Functions are pretty much the same as any bread maker, including express bake. During the baking process, the machine itself stays fairly cool so no worries about heating something outside the machine. Downside is that when baking in the whole wheat cycle, compared to my old machine, this one takes an hour longer due to the preheat process. The other downside is the price for a new machine. I got mine refurbished which saved me a significant amount of money. We opened the box and removed the bread maker, we automatically disappointed. The front of the machine had marred places that someone had taken a scouring pad and tried to removed the marks leaving a worsened area. We sent it back. Customer Rating: Summary: Great Bread Maker Comment: This may have been a refurbished unit, but it looked and worked like a new one. My wife is very particular and she thought it was brand new. I made a loaf today and it came out as good, if not better, than the bread I normally make. One other thing is that I don't have to get the Kitchenaid, rising bowl, and other things out to make the bread. Just put everything in the pan and walk away from it and cleanup is nothing. Customer Rating: Summary: Buy with caution! Comment: I bought this unit refurbished. I selected it specifically because they offer a setting for gluten-free bread (I have celiac disease and cannot bake with wheat). The first unit I received made a horrible sound during the baking process. It sounds like the fan is not balanced properly, making a high pitched screeching sound after having run for about an hour. I requested a return authorization and Amazon immediately shipped a replacement unit. The replacement unit made a peculiar sound when initially plugged in and then did not turn on at all- no recognition when any of the buttons are pressed. Back it goes. Additionally, it was very obvious that the replacement unit had been used. A portion of the plastic housing holding the window in place was peeling And the unit did not look "new" and clean inside. The bread baked by the screeching unit was of a pleasant texture but the crust is very, very tough, even when the maker is run on the light crust setting. This may be a result of the gluten free recipe however. It's hard to say for sure that a different breadmaker would do better. More Reviews 
Choosing Appliance -> Strainers We recommend 2 strainers for every kitchen. The first is a solid stainless steel colander (one big enough to wash a lot of lettuce at once). The second strainer is a fine mesh conical strainer (called a chinois) which is a must for any serious sauce or stock making. A chinois is an expensive purchase, but with care it will last many years. Choosing Appliance -> Salad spinner While some may consider this a bit on the gadgety side, I think it is a must as dressings do not stick to water-logged salad greens.
