Customer Reviews of Emerson 8-Bottle Wine Cooler - Red
Customer Rating: Rating: 4/5Rating: 4/5Rating: 4/5Rating: 4/5Rating: 4/5
Summary: Good and attractive
Comment: Works great. The motor is a bit loud but it quickly gets to the temp you need and stays there (no further motor noise). The red stands out, I like it. One change, make it in a 15 bottle cooler.

Summary: wine cooler
Comment: I recently ordered the Emerson wine cooler. The performance of this cooler has been very good so far. It runs very quietly and keeps the temperature constant.

Summary: Good While It Lasted
Comment: It's a nice table top wine cooler. But the electric motor is fragile, and mine stopped cooling after about 18 months. There's no effective way to repair it, so it's money wasted for a product that has a limited life span.

Summary: A good little wine cooler, but...
Comment: I'm going to be the naysayer here, not because I don't like the cooler because I do, very much. But because there are certain issues I encountered that I think need to be mentioned.

First, it can be persnickety. You have to leave such-and-such much room around it, behind it, above it, etc. You can't put anything heavy on top of it, and probably shouldn't put anything at all on top of it. You have to make sure it's level... and yes I know all of this makes a certain amount of sense but when you're told as much rather forcibly in an otherwise skimpy manual, you start to wonder if it isn't going to be a problem.

One of the other things the manual warned about was temperature/humidity. Apparently it doesn't like temperatures too hot or too cold, or humidity one little bit, but the manual never actually comes out and tells you what might happen if it gets to be too hot, too cold or too damp. That much I think I can tell you: It beeps at you. For the first few days I had it on my sun porch, which was the only place I could use it effectively, and it beeped on and off for about 48 hours, sometimes for an hour or two at a time. The beeping got so annoying that I finally called Emerson to ask what to do, and was told that it doesn't do that. Nevertheless, says I, it is. The tech support guy, who seemed to not even want to bother talking about it told me to send it back because it shouldn't be doing that at all, ever, nevernevernever. Nope. Doesn't do that. Send it back.

If it's not supposed to beep at all, then why does it have a beep function?

I didn't really want to send it back, though, and I did notice that when the weather grew a bit cooler and drier, it all stopped, so I haven't sent it back. I'm really quite happy with it now that it's gotten a bit quieter. Perhaps it was homesick and needed to settle in, I really just don't know why there was any sort of problem.

In all, I think it's a terrific little unit and I'll almost certainly be keeping it now that it's calmed down. However be aware that there might be a temperature/humidity issue, and that Emerson is no help at all, really. I appreciate the easy way in which they suggest that it get sent back, but I think that a bit of dialog about what might be the problem would have been nice.

Summary: Love it!
Comment: We are always short on fridge space and wine bottles were taking up too much of it! So we purchased this and are very happy so far (1 month). Attractive behind our "bar", soundless operation, keeps every bottle at the precise temp you set. We liked the red color; matches the decor in the room.

Choosing Appliance -> Salad spinner
While some may consider this a bit on the gadgety side, I think it is a must as dressings do not stick to water-logged salad greens.
Choosing Appliance -> Energy-Efficient Refrigerators
The EnergyGuide label on new refrigerators will tell you how much electricity in kilowatt-hours (kWh) a particular model uses in one year. The smaller the number, the less energy the refrigerator uses and the less it will cost you to operate. In addition to the EnergyGuide label, don't forget to look for the Energy Star label. A new refrigerator with an Energy Star label will save you between $35 and $70 a year compared to the models designed 15 years ago. This adds up to between $525 and $1,050 during the average 15-year life of the unit.

Tips How to Maintain Appliance -> Hob and grill cooking
Modern appliances reach higher temperatures quicker - and often hold heat longer. To avoid worktop damage, follow both the appliance manufacturers instructions and these rules:
  • Always use the correct size of pan for the burner, placed centrally. An overhanging pan can scorch surrounding surfaces. Don't use two burners as one (e.g. for a large griddle) - it has the same effect.
  • To reduce heat, turn the burner down instead of pulling the utensil partially off the heat source.
